The Pekingese, also known as Peking Palasthund and Little Lion Dog of Peking, are among the favorite American pets of the twenty-first century. The Pekingese is also referred to as a sleeve dog because it is said the Chinese royalty carried the little Peke in the sleeves of their robes.
There were no real lions in China. However, the Lion of Buddha was a sacred symbol from about the first century A.D. The artist of those days portrayed Buddhist’s symbols remarkably like the emperor’s palace dogs. The Pekingese were probably the artists’ models. Until 1860 the Pekingese was kept only by the imperial family. The Imperial family designated three types:
• Lion Dogs for their manes and large forequarters; • Sun Dogs because of their golden red coats; • And Sleeve Dogs because they were often carried inside the rather large sleeves of the royal families.
According to historians when the British raided the Chinese Imperial Palace in 1860, they carried off five of these little dogs. One of these little dogs was presented to Queen Victoria and named “Looty.” The remaining four were given to Admiral John Hay. In John Hay’s Greenwood Castle these four Pekingese became the foundation stock for today’s Western Pekingese.
Very little is known or available of the ancestors of the Pekingese. We do know Oriental breeding was common to produce small type pug-faced dogs with flowing coats.
The Pekingese is probably better suited to adult families or those with older children who understand the need of careful handling of small dogs. The Pekingese is sociable and loves to romp with its family. He can be somewhat stubborn, never loses courage or dignity. He is even-tempered, intelligent and affectionate. The Pekingese is a loyal companion. He is best trained with gentleness, consistency and with great patience. Reward every appropriate action with a kind word and a special treat. The Pekingese is usually not known as an alarm dog. He usually resents strangers, is bold, brave and may develop into a watchdog if encouraged.
The Pekingese have not changed a lot since they were residents of the royal palace of China. They are still small and compatible little dogs. They were bred to please their royal owners. Following the fall of the Chinese palace in 1860 they were seen in Great Britain. The AKC registered the Pekingese in 1906 and the breed has grown in popularity since that time.
Pekingese do not require a lot of exercise, long walks with its owner and backyard playtime is plenty for the Peke.
Grooming
You guessed it…..the Pekingese does require quite a bit of grooming. Its coat is abundant, long, straight, flat and flowing. Most Pekingese have a black mask that extends to the ears and are seen in many different colors. Grooming should begin very early in the life of a Pekingese puppy. The fine coat tangles easy. Care must be taken to straighten or clip out mats as they form. The top coat is coarse with a thick undercoat. There is a profuse mane extending beyond its shoulders which forms a cape around the neck.
You will need a slicker or pin brush and a wide-toothed comb. Brushing regularly is essential. Pet Pekingese are more comfortable having their stomach, chest and genital area clipped very short. Show dog Pekingese, however, are not clipped in this manner.

Long ago when someone was ready to study a martial art, they would seek out a particular teacher or Sensei. Where the dojo was located was irrelevant. If they had to travel long distances or even move to study under this person, they would. Today people choose martial art schools for convenience and affordability. The Sensei doesn’t seem to matter anymore. This is a mistake.
The Sensei - student relationship still does exists. It is however just as hard to find it today as it was long ago. If you join a commercial martial art school that has 100’s of students, how can you expect to learn anything from the Sensei on a personal level? The school becomes a factory designed to simply make money. It is a vicious cycle. The bigger the school, the more space needed, the more the overhead, the more more students are needed. It becomes very impersonal.
The interaction between the Sensei and the student is perhaps the most important part of the training. This relationship grows over time. Many young students today make statements like “Take what is useful and discard the rest and then move on”. Aside from being extremely disrespectful, what makes the young student think that he or she is even going to recognize what is useful or not? Pure arrogance? It doesn’t work this way. What you wind up with is a generation of students that jump around from one martial art to the next, never fully learning or accomplishing anything. This is how martial arts are ultimately destroyed.
No matter which martial art you choose, you must first consider the Sensei. It doesn’t matter what the school looks like, it doesn’t matter where the school is, if the Sensei is competent and takes an interest in you, then you will learn something. If not, well then you might as well join an aerobics center.

Hybrid Cars Save Money If you have been sitting on the fence about deciding to purchase a Hybrid car, you no longer have any excuse to be squeamish. Consumer Reports just released a study this August that confirms that Hybrid cars will in fact save you money over the long run.
The combination of generous tax credits along with the fuel saving nature of these vehicles is what makes them a good long term value. The difference in up front cost between a hybrid and its traditional counterpart is often between $1200 and $7000. Thats a wide gap, and can be enough to leave you wondering if its worth it.
The good news is that if you act fast and purchase your new Hybrid car before the tax credits phase out in 2007, alot of that upfront additional cost will come back to you in the form of a tax credit. Meanwhile, you will enjoy long term savings on fuel costs.
Did you know that as of 2006, Hybrids account for only 1% of new car sales in the US? As gas prices rise, the ratio will likely change as people seek to cut costs out of rising fuel prices. Unfortunately, if you wait too long you will no longer be able to take advantage of the tax credits that are being phased out. If you are considering purchasing a Hybrid car, you are better to do it now.
The study, conducted by Consumer Reports assumes that you keep your Hybrid car for several years, long enough to notice the difference in cost of filling up. Of course, the more you drive to work, school, or on vacation, the faster and greater your savings will add up.
If you are researching Hybrid cars, be sure to check out http://www.hybridrevolution.org This site lists updated information on all makes and models of Hybrids available and soon to be available. Amber Lowery is an author and webmaster. You can read more about Hybrid cars by visiting her site: http://www.netcarshopping.info/hybrid.html or by visiting: http://hybrid.autobuyerworld.info

Ever wonder why so many pet store puppies are sick or become sick within weeks of bringing them home?
The truth about pet store puppies is disturbing. If you’re an animal lover, the following paragraphs will be difficult to read, but simply doing just that could potentially spare a life.
It’s hard to imagine that in this country where dogs are considered valuable members of the family, have their very own telelvision and radio shows and people dress them in designer clothes and treat them like children, that a grave place called a puppy mill could still exist.
A puppy mill or puppy farm is a breeding operation with the sole purpose of making money. The animals are not screened for potential genetic health defects or even given basic medical care. There is definitely no attention paid to producing dogs that comform to breed standard for size or temperament.
A puppy mill can be a sign along the road advertising puppies, an ad in your local newspaper or they can even have a nice website, but they are almost always behind those cute puppies you’ve seen in pet shop windows.
You’d never know by looking at those puppies the deplorable conditions from which they came. You’ll see how excited they get when you approach their cage. You might even slip your hand through the bars despite the posted warning not to and entertain the thought of bringing home the one who seemed most eager, but it’s what you won’t see that would leave you gasping.
For that puppy’s mother, life (if you can call it that) is a desperate struggle. Her body is used up from years of overbreeding and because of this, she will probably never see her sixth birthday. She has never been shown love or compassion and probably has no idea what it would feel like to run in the grass.
Her life is not like that of a normal dog at all. She only exists for the purpose of breeding and has lived her entire life in the same small cage where she eats and sleeps and where she’s probably given birth to several litters.
But that doesn’t matter to the owner of the puppy mill. He only sees dollar signs when he looks into her dark, sad eyes. In another six months he’ll breed her once again for the sake of filling his wallet and the puppies will be shipped around the country to various pet stores and puppy brokers and the morbid cycle will continue.
When she’s no longer able to breed, she’ll finally be put her out of her misery- if she’s lucky enough. The sad truth is that she will probably still be worth a few dollars to a testing facility: A laboratory that uses dogs for the sake of testing new products.
There is no hope of ever stopping this morbid cycle of abuse as long as we keep buying puppies from pet stores.
Don’t be fooled by AKC papers. Although the AKC doesn’t condone puppy mills, almost anyone can register a new litter providing both parents are registered purebreds.
Please help put an end to this torture. Join the fight to eliminate puppy mills by refusing to purchase a puppy from anyone other than a reputable breeder. There are also millions of animals around the world in need of adoption. You might be surprised to know that one in four dogs rescued by the ASPCA, Humane Society and similar shelters is a purebred.
Please refer this article to a fellow animal lover or anyone who might someday be in the market for a purebred puppy.
My name is Brooke Faulder. I’ve made it my business, my passion and my mission in life to put an end to the exploitation of animals. Learn more about the plight of small breed dogs by reading through the pages of http://www.small-breed-dogs.com.

Internet Marketing
When you think about Marketing, what do you think of first? Which aspects of Marketing are important, which are essential, and which ones can you take or leave? You be the judge.
Millions of individuals are taking full advantage of the Internet these days. And they should considering how many great ways there are to earn extra cash. Some even make the decision to earn a living completely from home. Far too many folks are sick and tired of dealing with major companies and random lay-offs. You simply never know when it might be your turn to go. Therefore they begin making money online. Now, there are several ways one can go about this. Some people choose to start their very own Internet business, which can likely be ran from their home. While others dabble in adsense and make cash off of daily web traffic. Believe it or not, there is a great deal of money to be made this way.
It’s crucial to consider what you need to avoid if your goal is making money online. Along with all the wonderful options at your fingertips, there are scams galore. I can’t tell you how many scammers I’ve spotted online selling their hoopla. They pitch a great game about making money online. Virtually all of them will tell you how much can be made on the web if you do this and this, and then they proceed to pitch a product they’re selling. Most likely it’s a DVD or some sort of bogus software. This is where you have to stop and think for a moment. If they can really make so much cash doing what they’re encouraging you to do, then why are they spending their time and effort pitching something to you? Wouldn’t they be off making money online themselves? Instead they’ve chosen to sell a gimmicky product, which basically just amounts to some information. Obviously they weren’t doing to well.
Once you begin to move beyond basic background information, you begin to realize that there’s more to Marketing than you may have first thought.
When striving to earn cash via the web, avoid product pitches that guarantee riches. You can attain the crucial information you need for starting an online business, building websites and earning adsense revenue, or selling products via auctions, just by scouring the web. It’s all free. Begin by contemplating how you want to start making money online and what aspect of web-business you’d excel at. The more time and effort you put into your online money-making, the more turn-over you’ll surely see.
As your knowledge about Marketing continues to grow, you will begin to see how Marketing fits into the overall scheme of things. Knowing how something relates to the rest of the world is important too.

A little while back, I had the honor of doing a health and lifestyle consultation with an old friend of mine. I hadn’t seen him since college. He’s a vibrant, dynamic, gregarious “young” man of 40-ish years.
During the course of his consultation, he shared his health concerns and challenges with me, as well as his stresses. He’s in a crisp white-collar position, at the helm of a highly successful company, overseeing hundreds of others like him.
Although he is being quite handsomely rewarded for his time and effort, his stress levels are truly through the roof! He works insane hours - not so much because he ‘has’ to, but because he feels he ‘needs’ to in order to stay ahead in his business. Most week nights he doesn’t get home to his wife and young children until after 8 p.m. and is back at work by 7 a.m. or earlier the next day.
His candle’s flames are about to meet right in the middle!
He came to see us because he has finally had enough of his physical aches and limitations. He has some rather chronic challenges, including severe headaches and pain in a variety of places.
As always, I dug deeper into the patterns of his lifestyle: his nutritional choices, his movement, his mindset, his stress levels, his sleep cycles, his ‘down’ time, and so on. Time and time again, he’d actually interrupt himself to reiterate how completely stressed out his was!
As far as nutrition goes, he felt he was on the right track because he had started a weight management program to help him lose the extra pounds he had gained in recent years. He was logging everything he was eating. Good start. But, he was choosing things like egg whites only, diet foods, diet pop, “protein” milk for breakfast with his cereal (”for the fiber”), as well as more salads and wraps (than burgers, etc.) from fast food restaurants for lunch. His new favorite dessert at lunch is the apple “fries” from McDonald’s… because they’re ‘healthy’.
Sometimes, it’s very challenging to only gather information on the first visit! I just wanted to start helping him right away! I knew him “back when”, so I felt especially inclined to help him look and feel the way he used to. Patience…
Next, we got into movement and exercise. “I don’t”, he said. “You don’t what?” I asked. “Move - at all” he said! “Oh.” He explained that he sits in his car for almost an hour on his drive, then he sits all day long at work, then in his car again for his hour long drive home. He fully admitted that he knows he should exercise, but he just doesn’t. He used to, many years ago. I remembered him as an athlete. But not now. Not for a long time.
I’m thinking, “Houston, we have a problem.”
This is the part that really irked me…
When I thought we were nearing the end of our consultation, he shared with me that he’s doing really well though because he was recently given a “clean bill of health”. I began to wonder, in my curious little mind, what kind of a moron would give this guy a “clean bill of health”??!! He’s eating fake, toxic foods; not moving at all; stressed out to the gills; has chronic issues with headaches and some other physical pain; drinks a LOT of coffee; smokes… and that’s “healthy”??!!
It gets better.
Apparently, his company sends its top level executives to this fancy schmancy private medical clinic for their annual check-ups. It’s one of these up-and-coming diagnostic centers where you spend the entire day there going through a variety of medical tests in posh surroundings. Then you sit down for a “board meeting” with the doctors at the end of the day to review your test results. As you can imagine, these places are quite popular with the “in” crowd. I like to call them the “elite diagnostic day spas”! Much pomp and circumstance!
After going through umpteen blood tests, urine tests, and scans of all sorts, his team of doctors reported that everything looked pretty good… except his cholesterol. It was ‘borderline’ high. They suggested that he “lay off the smoking”. Then his doctor said, “I’d like you to start taking Lipitor for the cholesterol. Here’s a prescription.”
My friend asked the doctor, “But I thought you said it was just borderline… do I really need to take this?” Doctor-for-the-elite said, “Absolutely. We want to keep it borderline or less… we don’t want it to get any higher. We’ll follow up. If it gets higher, we’ll up your dose.”
So, my old pal concludes his story with, “So, that’s it! I’m good, according to “XYZ Clinic”… and they’re the best, so they would know!”
Huh?
You have NO idea the dizzying number of thoughts, questions, remarks, concerns and outbursts that were swimming through my head as he finished this story! Just breathe….
As far as my friend goes, he’s doing better. He’s taking baby steps toward adding truly healthy choices to his lifestyle. I won’t even attempt to detoxify his off-kilter mindset that places such ridiculous paradigms of “health” on a pedestal. As long as he’s getting healthier, that’s what matters most… for now.
The bigger problem is the countless numbers of people - in the regular “slum dog” clinics, doctors’ offices, hospitals, all the way up to these executive clinics - who are being led to believe the exact same thing.
If these tests aren’t showing anything outside of the parameters we’ve been taught are normal… then you must be healthy. Don’t do anything… yet. Once you teeter outside the parameter, then we’ve got a potpourri of drugs for you to choose from!
This is the mindset… the paradigm. There’s no need to “do” anything until there are test results that directly connect to a specific classification of drugs we can use to change the test result. These isolated tests are next-to-never combined to give a picture representative of overall physiological function… or health. They’re simply snippets of a system here, an organ there… scattered bits of information.
Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe it’s only this friend… and every other friend of mine who has shared their ‘health’ stories with me… and hundreds of our practice members… and my own parents… and far too many of my loved ones. Yeah, maybe it’s just us.
Time and time again, I hear the same story. And it almost NEVER includes, “I’m not going to give you any drug AT ALL for this test result which shows a change in your (cholesterol, weight, discomfort, blood pressure, moods, sleep, headaches, menstrual cycle, sexual function, energy, etc.). Instead, I want you to take the next month and do this: exercise daily - resistance training 3x/week, cardio 3x/week, and do some stretching daily, and yoga-type movement several times per week; cut the crap out of your diet this month - lay off fast food, pop, diet foods, fake foods - eat real, whole food that is fresh and as pure as possible, drink nothing but pure water this month; go to bed every night by 10 or 10:30pm; every morning, put something positive and inspirational in your brain before ever starting your day and do something every night to relieve your stress of the day; take no medication whatsoever, unless it is unequivocally keeping you alive! Come back in a month, and we’ll re-evaluate. I don’t ever give someone drugs unless, (a) I know they’re making excellent lifestyle choices consistently, and they still need some medical assistance temporarily, and (b) I’ve run the most appropriate tests and I know exactly what the test results mean, as far as your overall health and function.”
The story, sadly, normally includes drugging before making lifestyle changes… or instead of making lifestyle changes. Or, drugging before the test results are even back from the lab.
We’re not sick because of a shortage of medication in our systems. We’re sick and dysfunctional because of our toxic and deficient environments (internal and external) and toxic and deficient lifestyle choices: how we eat, how we move, how we think, how we handle stress. Drugs cannot fix that.
Countless scientific journals for years now have reiterated that virtually every disease we’re suffering from today is a “disease of lifestyle”… an extremely low percentage (less than 1%) are truly genetic. That means that the answers - the “cures” - lie in our lifestyle choices and our environment.
Conventional, allopathic medicine is not the correct paradigm to turn to in order to create health. It is the perfect paradigm to turn to for emergency care, traumatic care and for life-saving procedures when lifestyle changes are too little, too late. My family has been on the very grateful receiving end of excellent medical care in these cases. I believe the people in that paradigm are great people. I even believe the paradigm is a great one… WHEN it’s used properly. Unfortunately, I see massive abuse of power and information in that paradigm. People, like my friend, are the victims.
I know when to use this system, and when to avoid it like the plague. To get the right answers, you’ve got to ask the right questions… to the right people… in the right paradigm.
I’m wondering what would have happened to my friend, had he not decided to do something more proactive about his health and lifestyle. I completely understand the concept of “watchful waiting”. But putting someone on drugs, and making virtually NO lifestyle recommendations, and just waiting for things to get bad enough to “do something” is not an intelligent choice. The poor guy was on his way to a train wreck, in my opinion. Lipitor wasn’t going to stop that momentum.
A somewhat paramount understatement!
You know what? On a certain level, I completely understand that traditional docs aren’t giving lifestyle advice. That’s not their area of expertise… so why should they dabble with it? Fair enough. If you’ve primarily studied pathology and symptoms (and how to change it with drugs and surgery), as opposed to studying normal, healthy physiology (and how to create that), we shouldn’t expect you to give us answers that will create health. We should expect you to tweak our symptoms primarily using drugs and surgery. Fair enough, again.
I just wish more innocent “consumers” were aware of this when they turn to the perceived one-and-only source for “health” information and care.

To be in vibrational resonance with money, you have to love it. If you fear money or do not love it, you will repel it away from you. By thinking thoughts such as you should not love money or feel desire for it, you are causing vibrational dissonance between your subconscious mind and money. By loving money and being comfortable around it like it is your good friend, you free yourself to have money and have it more abundantly.
We have been taught that the love of money is the root of all evil. Therefore we think that it is wrong to love money. But that is one of the biggest errors the world has ever made about understanding money. The truth is, the love of money is not evil. It is only the root of evil. The love of anything can be the root of evil. People have done all kinds of evil for love. Love is not evil. It is when people love with ignorance that results in evil. Loving with awareness only results in good.
When you love money, it can be the root of all good or all evil. Remember that all truth are half truths. The glass can be half empty or half full. One perspective is only half the truth. When you can see things one way as well as the opposite, you have full perspective and total truth. When you love money, that love is the root that can grow into that which is good or evil. Loving money with awareness leads to all good whereas loving money with ignorance leads to all evil.
Observe of the way you behave around money. Notice your thoughts and feelings when you are dealing with it. Do you try to handle it discreetly as though you are almost ashamed of it? Do you find it awkward when you talk about any subject that involves money? Do you try to think as little about it as possible as you quickly pass it to the person you are buying something from, or taking it and putting it away hurriedly as if the longer it stays in sight, the more unacceptable it feels?
All of such behaviors and attitudes shows how you really are towards money. You have an unconscious dislike towards money. You may have all the conscious thoughts about how good it is to have money and believing that you are wealthy, but if you are acting like this towards money, you are creating resistance which prevents money from flowing freely to you. This awareness will open your eyes to your relationship with money and free you from unwittingly repelling it.
Wealth is a state of being. Having wealth begins with being wealth. When you are wealth, you are one with everything that is wealth. To be one with something is to love it, accept it, embrace it and be completely comfortable with it. Money being a form of energy that facilitates enjoyment and providence is a form of wealth. Therefore to be wealth is to be one with money and to love it, accept it, embrace it and be completely comfortable with it. Money moves to the one who loves it the most!
Take out some bills from your wallet and hold it in your hands. Look at it and just be with it. Say to yourself that you love money and money loves you. Feel good about it and feel the love for it. Do the same with your credit cards, your jewelries, your checks, your back account statement, and things that represent money. See all these things not as separated from you, but they are all extensions of your being. The more you love money and are at one with it, the more you attract it into your life.
Treat money with respect and appreciation. When you pass money to someone, do not just chuck it in their hands as if it were a bunch of papers. Hand it over to them as though you were presenting a sword with both hands to a worthy knight. When you receive money, do not take it as though you were grabbing a bunch of dirt and putting it away as if you are trying to get rid of it as quickly as possible. Take your money with appreciation and handle it comfortably as though it is your favorite pen.
Anytime you see money come into your life such as when you see commissions from sales or gifts from people, love it, welcome it and feel that it loves coming to you. Have the attitude that people love to give money for what you have to offer, and share it willingly and happily with you. Anytime you spend money to get what you desire, do it happily and willingly. Whenever you give money to loved ones or charity, handle your money comfortably and give it as though you are giving your love.
Loving money unites you with it. Fearing money separates you from it. We have an unconscious fear for something when we keep distancing ourselves from it and see it as separate from us. We have an unconscious love for something when we keep being near or around it and see it as a part of us. Allow yourself to identify with money and see your money as you. But when money goes away from you, do not think of yourself as any lesser because to love perfectly is to love freely without attachment.
Love material things in the material world as well. Love your house, your car, your toys, your clothes, your looks, your body and all your material possessions. Feel good about them and see them as all extensions of yourself. Be unashamed to show your money or your material possessions to others. In heaven everyone shows off the beauties of their creation to one another proudly and joyfully. Material things and spiritual things are the same because they are all energy of the source which is God.
People who see themselves as good but see money as evil repel money away from them. People who see themselves as evil but see money as meant for good people, repel money. People who see themselves as good and see money as good attract money to themselves. People who see themselves as evil and see money as evil also attract money to themselves. It is all about being in vibrational resonance by seeing you and money are of the same kind which draws it to you.

Each of the stories that follow is absolutely factual.
- When their clothes dryer blew up, the young couple escaped with her cell phone, their toddler son, and one shoe. The house was incinerated in fifteen minutes. She was supporting the family with her home-based business while her husband looked for work. Her business computer was now part of the ashes and rubble that had been their home.
- A talented and creative freelance writer and curriculum developer had no time to grab her computer when she and her husband had to evacuate their house during Southern California’s wildfire season. All her current and past projects were lost.
- Leaving her laboratory office after a long day working on a grant proposal, the neurobiologist had no idea that when she returned the next morning to review and submit the proposal - due that day - her computer would refuse to boot up. Fortunately, the problem was not the hard drive; even more fortunately, the proposal had been sent to the university’s finance department for review, and was submitted on time.
I have heard so many heart wrenching stories about people losing family memories, captured in photo albums and personal correspondence, in fires, floods, and other disasters. In this digital age, many of these treasures are stored on our computers: digital photography starts as a computer image before being printed and framed, and nowadays most correspondence is handled through email.
People admit, albeit reluctantly, that yes, they should back up their computers more often - or even at all! Despite my dislike of the word “should,” I completely agree. We really, really should back up our computers, on a planned and regular basis!
So, what keeps us from doing so? There are three primary reasons.
- We may be unaware of how many treasures - financial and medical records, digital images of family and friends, emails from college-student sons and daughters and, yes, those all-important business records! - are stored on the hard drive whose reliability we take for granted.
- We don’t like to think about unpleasant possibilities, especially when there’s no way to prevent such surprises. The young couple whose clothes dryer blew up certainly never dreamed that their house would - or even could! - burn to the ground that quickly.
- Many people are confused and baffled by what to do and how to do it. Even for those who are technically proficient, creating a personal backup and disaster recovery plan ranks only slightly higher than cleaning the bathroom; for the many who find technology confusing and scary, cleaning the bathroom starts looking downright fun compared to figuring out a backup plan!
The good news is that help is available for both planning and for the technology. The biggest job facing you is deciding how detailed you want your plan to be - which depends on how valuable your data is to you. There are three primary questions.
- If you were to lose everything on your computer tomorrow, what would it mean to you?
- Is there crucial business, medical, and/or financial information on your computer?
- Do you know where your software CDs and license keys are?
Once you have answered those questions, you can use my Backup and Disaster Recovery worksheet to create (and then implement!) your own plan. (Find the worksheet on my website at http://www.svahaconcepts.com/backups) If the technology feels too overwhelming and unfamiliar, my fellow coach Beth Lyons (at http://www.techiecoach.com) is a technical guru who loves helping people solve technical challenges.
Whatever you do - please take the time to do something. For your own sake and for the sake of your family, who need the history and the memories that are stored so tenuously on your computer, take the time to define and implement a backup and disaster recovery plan. You’ll be glad you did!

There are many sources of problems that could give you Startup troubles. These include: defective, incompatible, or incorrectly configured hardware, incompatible (software) device drivers, or a recently installed programs.
Problem: Your screen remains blank when you switch on the PC.
Cause:- That you are not able to even get the BIOS POST screen indicates problem with basic hardware.
Solution: Work through the PSU, Video card and mother board trouble shooting sessions before checking other components.
Problem: Your XP computer stops responding at start up
Cause - 1:- A device driver or a recently installed software or service is stopping windows from booting up normally. There has been a corruption in the windows registry.
Solution1A:- Restart the computer and login to XP in Safe Mode. Open Device Manager and look for any problematic devices. Ensure that any jumper settings on the hardware are properly set. If the hardware is properly configured and you are still facing the problem, then it may mean that the device driver for the hardware needs to be updated. Remove the device through the Device Manager and reboot normally. Obtain the updated device driver for the hard ware (through the internet, a CD, etc.,) Run the hardware Wizard and reinstall the device drivers.
Solution1B:- Reboot the computer in Safe Mode. If the problem is not related to the hardware or you don’t see any problematic devices in device manager, run the system restore utility to rollback the computer to a previous time when you know it was working normally.
Solution1C:- If system restore doesn’t get your computer to start normally get to the windows advanced options menu and select “last known good configuration”. Windows XP will start the computer using the registry information from the last shutdown.
Solution1D:- If the “last known good configuration” doesn’t work, then your final course of action is to do an in place upgrade. Run the windows XP setup program from your installation CD. Solution1E: If you suspect that the recently installed system service is causing this problem, stop the service by following the steps outlined earlier.
Cause:II :- The bios setting are incorrect.
Solution:- II :- Restart the computer and enter the bios set up screen. If you have changed any settings restore them to the previous values. If you are sure about the previous values or haven’t changed the settings, select the load fail-safe defaults option and reboot.
Cause:III:- There might be a hard disk failure or data corruption in the boot records.
Solution:- III:- Insert the windows XP installation CD and restart the computer .on the welcome to set up screen, press R to start the recovery console. You will be prompted for the administration password. Type in the password, or if the password is blank, hit (Enter),. At the command prompt, type in “chkdsk”. This will run the check disk utility that will scan the hard disk for any faults. Check disk may report a hardware failure or errors on your disk. If it does it is best to take your PC to the repair professional.
Problem: You receive an error message when Windows XP starts.
Cause : - A recently installed file or service or software program is compatible with windows XP and its preventing it from starting. Look carefully at the error message. If a file or service name is referred to in the error message then you can trouble shoot by either clean booting or stopping the service.
Solution1A:- To perform a clean boot in windows XP use the following step.
1.Start the system configuration tool by going to start > run, typing in ” msconfig” , and pressing Enter.
2.Click selective startup and clear the following check boxes. ” process system.ini file” , “process win.ini file” and “load startup items”
3.Select the services tab and click the ” hide all Microsoft services ” check box and then select ” disable all” .
4.Click ok and then ” restart” to restart your system
5.When windows restarts , if the error doesn’t occur, reopen “msconfig” and click the “process system.ini file” check box and click ok and restart your computer. If the error returns you know that the problem is with the one of the system.ini entries. If the error doesn’t occur, progressively enable the remaining check boxes. Restart the computer after you enable each check box till the error occurs again.
6.Once you have identified the area in which the error occurs disable the entry or stop/disable the service as the case maybe.
Solution1B:- If you are unable to perform a clean boot you trouble shoot the problem and you know the name of the service, then start the recovery console as explained earlier. From the command prompt change to the system 32 folder. Type in ” listsvc” at the command prompt in the system 32 folder. A list of all services on your computer will be displayed. Locate the service name that is causing the error. Type “disable ” and press enter. The computer will print a message listing the “start type” that is being shut down. Note it down in case you need to re-enable the service. Type “exit” and allow the computer to restart normally.
Solution1C:- If you recently install a program that is causing this error, remove the program. If the program is not listed in the add/ remove list you will have to visit the developers website for instructions on how to remove the program.
Problem: After an upgrade, programs that loaded during startup would not start.
Cause: This symptom is noticed when you log in for the first time after upgrading from windows 98 or ME. Windows XP will remove all programs from the start up list which it feels are not compatible.
Solution: Click start > run , type in ” msconfig” and press Enter. Click the start up tab. Select the “restore startup programs” option and click ok . Restart the computer.

Do you ever calculate the times you have performed operating systems installations? Well, personally, I cannot remember the actual times I have installed Windows for both work and personal. Let me give some rough figures.
Windows 3.11 - 5 times
Windows 95 - 5 times
Windows 98 - 50 times
Windows Me - 5 times
Windows 2000 - 5 times
Linux Red Hat - 3 times
Windows XP Pro - 100 times
Windows Server 2003 - 3 times
Windows Vista - 8 times
Honestly, I never enjoy going through the process of installing any of the operating systems. For those who know me, I will most probably be looking at the progress bar during the installation as if I am very interested. However, I am actually very frustrated and hoping that the progress bar could go as fast as it could be.
Attended Installation
Well, some of you may know that the normal installation through the OS CD or DVD (such as looking at the progress bar and clicking several next buttons) is called attended installation and it is possible that you create your own unattended installation using deployment tools. However, I will not be covering the Windows unattended installation.
Unattended Installation
Most companies use Imaging (ISO) to create a duplicate copy of installed operating system so that they can easily install the exact copy of operating system with their corporate settings to every new machine by extracting the ISO.
ISO Images
- ISO is an archive or a duplicate or backup copy of whatever files that you wish to store
In other words, I create ISO images to backup my entire operating system hard drive data.
Hiren BooCD and Norton Ghost to create ISOs
I use Hiren BootCD, the all in one Dos Bootable CD. One of the software included is Norton Ghost, which can be used to create hard disk images known as ISOs.
ImgBurn
ImgBurn is a Windows program and it’s free. You can install it and create ISO images or burn the images into CDs and DVDs.
ImgBurn VS Hiren BootCD
The difference between the two is that ImgBurn needs to be installed as a Windows program and undeniably, a good and easy tool to create ISO images. However, if your hard disk is corrupted, you won’t be able to use ImgBurn unless you have dual booting. Thus, you need to use HirenBootCD and Norton Ghost to extract your ISO images to the corrupted hard disk.
The Idea
Simple:
1. Complete an attended installation or manual installation from CD or DVD on one machine
2. Install all the necessary programs that you need such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and the likes
3. Perform operating system updates
After performing the steps above, boot your computer from Hiren BootCD and you will come to a screen for you to select the types of software that are bundled. Choose Norton Ghost from the list and from there, you can create an image out of your partition drive.
The ISO file can be stored in your hard disk for easy access but not in the same drive where you install your operating system. If your computer fails to load or startup properly, you can then pop in Hiren BootCD, boot from the CD and restore the ISO file.
The Practice
My own practice is to have at least two partitions, namely C and D.
- C drive will be the drive where I install my operating system and programs
- D drive will be my document drive
- A copy of ISO created from the C drive will be kept in D drive
Benefit
When operating system is corrupted, none of my document files will be affected when I extract ISO into the C drive. Extracting ISO to C drive will overwrite every data in C drive without any warning. However, after extracting the ISO, you will get the same settings and operating system as of the time when you create the ISO.
What’s more? You do not have to go through the process of keying the product key, selecting the time zone, installing the drivers and commonly used programs.
